Highmark Creates, Expands Programs To Fight Opioid Addiction Disorder
Highmark is expanding services to help combat the opioid epidemic. The company will begin providing health care provider organizations with data such as opioid-prescribing patterns, guidance on best practices, and in-network referral supports for complex cases.
In addition to those services—an expansion of Highmark’s partnership with axialHealthcare—the company will also begin limiting Highmark consumers’ initial prescriptions to seven-day supplies. Additionally, consumers will now be required to receive prior authorization for extended-release opioids if they have not recently been prescribed opioids.
