The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation announced that its care sites have been named Blue Distinction® Centers for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. Hazelden Betty Ford’s facilities in Center City, Plymouth, St. Paul, Chaska and Maple Grove—which all provide services on-site and to Minnesotans anywhere via telehealth—are among the first to receive the new designation under the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program that is designed to help individuals who have addiction disorders find facilities that deliver quality treatment and care.
Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated facilities that show a commitment to delivering improved safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the community and leading accreditation and quality organizations. The Blue Distinction Center for Substance Use Treatment and Recovery program requires designated facilities to deliver coordinated multidisciplinary care to patients and provide timely access to quality medical and psychosocial care in all phases of treatment. Designated facilities must also offer medication-assisted treatment, an approach to treating opioid addiction that includes both medications and evidence-based psychosocial therapies.
The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation is a leading non-profit provider organization for comprehensive inpatient and outpatient addiction treatment for adults and youth. The Foundation has 17 locations nationwide and collaborates with an expansive network throughout health care. The Foundation also encompasses a graduate school of addiction studies, a publishing division, an addiction research center, recovery advocacy and thought leadership, professional and medical education programs, school-based prevention resources and a specialized program for children who grow up in families with addiction.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, with headquarters in the St. Paul suburb of Eagan, covers 2.9 million members in Minnesota and nationally through its health plans or plans administered by its affiliated companies. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
