Scientists Identify Genes Linked To Intellectual Disability
Scientists at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), in partnership with Queen's University, have identified 26 new genes relating to intellectual disability. The new genes were discovered through a study of 192 families from Pakistan and Iran with more than one family member with an intellectual disability. The discovery should impact the diagnosis and care of those with intellectual disabilities, add to knowledge of brain development and functioning, and could lead to personalized treatments for affected individuals.
