Emory Healthcare and Walmart recently announced they are partnering to launch a new accountable care organization (ACO) for Walmart employees in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Additionally, they will create a bundled payment program for individuals needing spine and joint replacement surgeries.
ACOs seek to put more emphasis on quality of care and health comes, while also decreasing costs for consumers. Walmart and Sam’s Club employees in the area who decide to join the ACO will have access to free preventive care visits and pay standard copayments for primary care, specialist, and urgent care. In addition to these services, beneficiaries will have access to some weight loss and cardiac surgeries as part of the Centers of Excellence program.
