The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently issued a final rule that updates 2020 payment policies for Medicare Advantage and Part D prescription drug plans. One of the key focuses of the rule is on the social determinants of health.
Specifically, Medicare Advantage health plans are anticipated to receive a 2.53% pay raise in 2020, with chronically ill health care consumers being able to receive coverage for products and services that help address the social determinants of health. Such services can include meal delivery, non-medical needs, and transportation.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is part of the Department of Health and Human Services. CMS administers the Medicare program and works in partnership with state governments to administer Medicaid and other health insurance programs.
