Health insurer Cigna recently announced it is acquiring Express Scripts for about $52 billion. The announcement follows what has been a continuing trend of major mergers and acquisitions within the health care world. Evidence of such can be seen in cases such as the recent CVS Health agreement to acquire Aetna.
The two companies anticipate that the deal with help to accelerate focus of care from “sick care interventions” to health care, addressing the unique needs of individuals by offering behavioral health advice and other services through a newly created division. Additionally, Cigna leaders have remarked that the acquisition will help to generate savings in medical and pharmacy costs for consumers.
Cigna is a global health service company dedicated to helping people improve their health, well-being, and sense of security.
