New Colorado Law Will Standardize County Adoption Assistance Policies & Practices
On May 14, 2019, Colorado Governor Jared Polis signed Senate Bill 19-178 to standardize adoption assistance policies and practices across Colorado’s 64 counties. Colorado has a state-supervised, county-administered child welfare system, which allowed counties to develop policies specific to their local communities. The law applies to new adoptive families as of August 2, 2019. According to a representative from the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) they are in the process of rewriting state rule; however, Colorado counties are expected to comply regardless of rule being in place.
