Only Four States Have Essential Health Benefits Benchmark Plans That Meet PPACA Standards For Addiction Treatment
Only four U.S. states (California, Minnesota, Oregon, and Rhode Island) have essential health benefits (EHB) benchmark plans that provide coverage for comprehensive addiction treatment that aligns with the parity standards established by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) for individual health insurance marketplace plans. In the remaining states, the EHBs fail to address one or more elements of comprehensive addiction treatment at parity with medical and surgical benefits. Of the four states that offered comprehensive addiction treatment coverage, only Rhode Island offered comprehensive benefits for addiction treatment in two marketplace plans offered under the PPACA . . .
