About 23% Of People With Disabilities Lost Critical Care Services During The COVID-19
According to a May 1, 2020 survey, approximately 23% of the 2,469 respondents with disabilities lost critical care services during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. For the 47% of respondents who maintained critical care services by direct care workers, about 54% found it impossible to maintain safe distances, as required by COVID-19 guidelines. The respondents had the following disabilities:
- 58% had cognitive disabilities: the presence of a physical, mental, or emotional condition creating serious difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions.
