August 31, 2004 NAATP continues
innovative trends for SECAD 2004 The National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers continues a tradition begun nearly 30 years ago with the 2004 edition of SECAD (South East Conference on Addictive Diseases). The first days of December will see some of the most recent research, innovative approaches to addiction treatment and information provided on creative programs presented at SECAD/2004 in Atlanta, GA. Standing in the long history of SECAD, this 2004 version of SECAD will feature expanded opportunities for conference attendees to receive information on addiction treatment to the increasing complex patients they see seeking help. NAATP has teamed with AdCare Educational Institute, a leader in conference planning and management to assist with the registration and planning processes for SECAD/2004. SECAD continues to be jointly sponsored by the School of Medicine of the Medical College of Georgia through which Category I AMA CME’s are issued to qualified registrants. Nowhere else can you find such a wealth of critical subject matter, internationally renowned presenters and the most extensive exhibit area in the field of addiction treatment. SECAD combines all these in an atmosphere of comprehensive learning and cooperation that makes SECAD a truly unique experience! The Sheraton Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, GA will again be the location of this extraordinary educational event: SECAD/2004! Ronald J. Hunsicker, the President/CEO of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers says, “There is tremendous pressure on addiction treatment professionals to make use of the most recent research and incorporate these findings into program approaches. At the same time there are severe limitations on the number of conferences that treatment professionals can attend. NAATP is committed to having SECAD be the location where physicians, nurses, addiction counselors and other professionals can gather to get this up-to-date information and to network with other professionals who are involved in providing addiction treatment. This year we are especially pleased to have a presentation on the NIDA (National Institute of Drug Abuse) clinical trials network. This is another example of how SECAD is a vehicle for “research to practice” conversations and training.” SECAD 2004 will feature a Pre-SECAD workshop on November 30, 2004 for “The Clinical Manager: An Intensive Training Experience for New Managers”. This workshop will be presented by John Talbot, Ph.D., Senior Consultant with OPEN MINDS of Gettysburg, PA and will focus on the necessary supervisory skills for effective addiction treatment managers. It explores the differences between the role of clinician and manager, and the skills and techniques necessary for effective leadership and supervision. November 30 will also feature a workshop on “Core Clinical Strategies for Integrated Treatment” FOUNDATION ASSOCIATES, an innovative organization based in Nashville, TN. This workshop is an informative skill-based workshop on the core principles of co-occurring disorders and integrated treatment. Other speakers at SECAD/2004 will include:
An added attraction for the SECAD 2004 event will be the inclusion of the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Addiction Professionals (NALGAP) who will be celebrating their 25th anniversary and annual conference as part of the 2004 SECAD event. NALGAP is organizing several state-of-the-art SECAD/2004 sessions to help participants increase their competency in serving lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender clients.
