OPEN MINDS Releases New Data Reflecting a 6.8% Increase In Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Enrollment

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - OPEN MINDS is releasing information on the current market forces that are revolutionizing the design, delivery and financing of the employee assistance program (EAP) industry and the new opportunities that are expected to arise as a result of these changes. This information will be a part of the July issue of the OPEN MINDS newsletter, The Behavioral Health and Social Service Analyst.

According to the OPEN MINDS Managed Behavioral Health Market Share Survey results, there are currently more than 62 million individuals enrolled in employee assistance programs (EAPs) — a 6.8% increase from the 1999 enrollment figures. Between 1994 and 2000, enrollment has increased an astonishing 130%. Part of this increase is due to the trend to move towards Internet-based services.

The survey also revealed that 75% of the EAP market was captured by 10 provider organizations. The "top ten" EAP providers were Magellan Behavioral Health Services, Managed Health Network, Inc., ValueOptions, CompPsych Corporation, CIGNA Behavioral Health, FEI Behavioral Health, Ceridian Performance Partners, American Psych Systems, VMC Behavioral Health Care Services and Integra, Inc.

The July issue of OPEN MINDS will contain an industry analysis, which explains how the current market trends are affecting EAP enrollment. OPEN MINDS will also include a snapshot, derived from the OPEN MINDS Survey of Managed Behavioral Health Market Share 2000-2001, of enrollment and market share data for EAPs in the United States for the Year 2000.

OPEN MINDS Yearbook of Managed Behavioral Health Market Share in the United States has been published annually since 1988. However, this years survey includes an expansion on EAP services. The data collected from the survey is used to define the behavioral health care market, analyze changes in market position, identify industry trends and determine which vendors have staked out a leadership position. The Yearbook, along with the OPEN MINDS Yearbook of Health Maintenance Organizations 2000-2001, will be released in July of this year.
