OPEN MINDS Announces New Non-Profit Board Briefing on Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania - OPEN MINDS announced today the launch of a non-profit board briefing on the American Competitiveness and Corporate Accountability Act of 2002, commonly known as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. “Sarbanes-Oxley was signed into law with the intent of increasing accountability of for-profit public companies to their shareholders. What board members of non-profit organizations may not know is that Sarbanes-Oxley applies to non-profits as well,” said Monica E. Oss, OPEN MINDS president. “As of April 15, non-profit board members and executive teams will be responsible for compliance. Our briefing is designed to give organizations a ‘short course’ on Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and steps they need to take to ensure compliance.”

The non-profit board briefing on Sarbanes-Oxley covers:

  • An overview of Sarbanes-Oxley
  • A review of specific provisions of Sarbanes-Oxley applying to non-profits
  • A checklist of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements for non-profits
  • The impact of doing nothing - possible consequences of non-compliance

The OPEN MINDS Sarbanes-Oxley Board Briefing was developed by OPEN MINDS senior associate, James G. Trexler, MS, MPH. He is a nationally recognized expert in health and human service operations management and compliance issues. The board briefing is available to non-profit organizations as a live board presentation format or in a teleconference model.
