The Applicability Of Housing First Models To Homeless Persons With Serious Mental Illness

In July 2007, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of Policy Development and Research published a report on programs using a Housing First approach to providing permanent supportive housing to single, homeless adults. Those served have mental illness and co-occurring substance-related disorders, and frequently come directly (or nearly directly) off the streets. The report is intended to help clarify the issues and inform the policy discussion about how best to address the most vulnerable in American society.
