FTC Analysis Of 12 Consumer Fitness Apps & Devices Found Consumer Health Information Shared With 76 Different Third Parties

An analysis by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of data sharing by 12 consumer fitness apps  and devices found that they shared consumer information with 76 different third-parties. The information shared included device IDs; usernames, names, and email addresses; and consumer exercise data, meal/diet details, medical or symptom searches; zip codes; locations; and gender. One of the apps the transmitted information to 18 different third-parties; the information shared included device information, consumer-specific information, the workout route, and diet information.
