FDA Approves Evizio Portable Opioid Overdose Treatment Device
On April 3, 2014, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Evzio, a portable opioid overdose treatment device that delivers a single naloxone hydrocholoride injection. Naloxone, the standard treatment for opioid overdose, is a medication that rapidly reverses overdose effects, such as decreased breathing or heart rates and loss of consciousness. Existing naloxone drugs require administration via syringe and are most often used by trained medical personnel in emergency departments and ambulances.
