I learned a lot last week at our 2013 OPEN MINDS Planning & Innovation Institute. But, the most disturbing new knowledge (at least new to me) was how few organizations that are prescribing psychotropic medications are actually following the guidelines for consumer clinical lab testing. Veterans Administration Selects 24 Organizations For Privatized Behavioral Health Pilots

On June 3, 2013, Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Eric Shinseki said 24 provider organizations in nine states had been selected by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the VA to participate in a 24-site pilot program with private sector delivery of services for veterans with behavioral health disorders and their families. The pilot program is a new approach; normally all veterans services are provided by VA Medical Centers and clinics by VA staff.
