Medicaid Program: Initial Core Set of Health Quality Measures for Medicaid-Eligible Adults

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is in the process of establishing health care quality measures for state Medicaid plans; at the end of December 2010, HHS released an initial core set of 51 for comment; 11 specifically focused on mental health and addiction treatment. Comments were due by March 1, 2011. By January 1, 2012, HHS is required to finalize the initial core set of measures for publication and establish a Medicaid Quality Measurement Program to fund development, testing, and validation of emerging and innovative evidence-based measures.
