Supervising Child Protective Services Caseworkers

Marsha K. Salus, along with other members of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, published a child abuse and neglect user manual series in 2004. This specific manual titled, Supervising Child Protective Services Caseworkers, provides the foundation for effective supervisory practice in child protective services (CPS). This manual describes the roles and responsibilities of CPS supervisors and provides practice-oriented advice on how to carry out supervisory responsibilities in an effective manner. The best practices and critical issues in this supervisory practice are highlighted throughout this manual. This report provides quality information that should be read by CPS supervisors, administrators, child welfare supervisors, and any member of a child welfare agency staff.
