SharePreliminary Report of the Florida Task Force on Child Protection

The Florida Task Force on Child Protection released a preliminary report to identify deficiencies and make recommendations for improvements in child welfare policies, procedures, and training across the state. The Task Force found that the state of Florida's Department of Children and Families (DCF) lacks standardized adequate background checks for relatives, foster parents, and other potential caregivers. In addition, the DCF has not fully implemented recommendations from the Governors Blue Ribbon Panel on Child Protection and other reports to incorporate a current photograph, fingerprints, birth verification, and a DNA sample into every child's case file. The report also made several recommendations to the DCF as to correcting these inadequacies and dealing with other issues, such as runaways.
