The United States Supreme Court ruled 6 to 2 in favor of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) on November 14, 2005, in the Schaffer v. Weast case to decide who bears the burden of proof in special education cases under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
(IDEA).
