Preliminary Evidence of Improved Verbal Working Memory Performance and Normalization of Task-Related Frontal Lobe Activation in Schizophrenia Following Cognitive Exercises
According to a 2000 study by Yale Researchers Bruce E. Wexler, M.D., Margot Anderson, B.A., Robert K. Fulbright, M.D. and John C. Gore, Ph.D., patients with schizophrenia can benefit from memory exercises. Their research has shown that verbal memory deficits were lessened and task-related activation of certain parts of the brain were increased after several weeks of training exercises. Nonverbal
memory was not shown to improve.
Researchers used PositScience's Brain Fitness program to test its effectiveness on treating brain and behavioral aspects of verbal memory
dysfunction in patients with schizophrenia. The Brain Fitness program has recently been shown to improve memory and processing speed by 10 or more years.
