ShareRyan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008

On October 15, 2008, the Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008 was signed into law. It regulates on-line pharmacies by mandating that consumers must have a valid prescription for controlled substances from a physician who examined the person in person at least once. There is an exception for telemedicine. On-line pharmacies will also be required to specify when registering with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration if they sell controlled substances. Clear language that the on-line pharmacy is in compliance with the new legislation and contact information for affiliated pharmacists, pharmacies, and physicians must be placed on the on-line pharmacy's web site.
