The New York City Administration for Children's Services (ACS) launched a series of initiatives designed to improve
child welfare outcomes in the city. ACS issues regular safety
reforms updates. This update tracks ACS progress toward meeting its
goals.
Key milestones met include the development and launch of ChildStat,
a computerized accountability tool that is intended to strengthen
case practice and reporting requirements. ACS met its goal to hire
600 new child protective specialists to reduce average caseloads to
12. Other improvements include:
-
A team of national child welfare experts now provides practice
guidance to frontline staff
-
The Instant Response Team Protocol has been revised and staff have
been retrained to ensure appropriate implementation
-
Funding for preventive services has been increased by $9 million
