 California State Foster Parent Association v. John A. Wagner
The California State Foster Parent Association, Legal Advocates for
Permanent Parenting, and the California State Care Providers Association
filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in San Francisco, California. It
claims that the states foster care reimbursement rates violate the
federal Child Welfare Act, and calls for the state to increase the
reimbursement rates. The lawsuit names California social services
director, John Wagner, and Deputy Director Mary Ault as responsible
parties. The lawsuit does not seek back payments but calls for the state
to increase the foster care reimbursement rates to cover the full cost of
foster care and thus comply with federal law. No date has been set for
the hearing.
