of and Authorization to Implement the Katie A. Strategic Plan
Consolidating the Efforts of the Enhanced Specialized Foster Care Mental
Health Services Plan and the Corrective Action Plan
This five-year, $62 million plan to improve mental health services for children in foster care was passed by the Los Angeles County Board of supervisors on October 14, 2008. The plan calls for social workers to do basic mental health screenings by March 2009 for the 156,000 cases investigated each year. The improvement in services is part of the county's July 2003 settlement in the
Katie A. v. Bonta class action lawsuit that was filed on behalf of children with psychiatric, emotional, or behavioral problems.
