National Hospital Discharge Survey: 2007 Summary

The National Center for Health Statistics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have released the 2007 national hospital discharge survey results. In 2007, 2.1 million hospital discharges were for children under age 15; representing 6% of the 34.4 million hospital discharges for all ages that year. Between 1996 and 2007, the number of children between the ages of five and 13 years hospitalized for psychiatric problems doubled, from 15.6 per 10,000 in 1996 to 28.3 in 2007.
