Health Insurance Premiums & Cost Drivers in Minnesota, 2006
Private health insurance premiums in Minnesota grew by 7.2% per enrollee
in 2006, an increase of 2.77% over the 2005 growth rate of 4.5% in 2005.
Per enrollee, health plans expenses increased by 8.9% percent in 2006;
in 2005 costs grew by 7.2%. Enrollees per person average out-of-pocket
cost grew by 15%, from $489 in 2005 to $562 in 2006. As a share of total
spending, enrollees costs were about 14% in 2006, up from about 10% in
2000.
The report was written by the Health Economics Program of the Minnesota
Department of Health. The researchers sought to examine changes in health
care spending in the state. It evaluates cost of insurance and changes by
type of services to determine cost drivers.
