Coke County Juvenile Justice Center Audit
On September 26, 2007, the Acting Executive Director for the Texas Youth Commission authorized an unannounced audit of
the Coke County Juvenile Justice Center in Bronte, Texas. The facility provided
supervision and rehabilitative services to delinquent youth. The decision to conduct the audit was prompted by youth grievance data, collection of
data/information from Youth Rights Investigators/Specialists and information reported by the Deputy
Director of Juvenile Corrections subsequent to a site visit of the facility. TYC staff used several strategies to assess the effectiveness of unit operations and the
facility's compliance with the contract.
Primary areas of review included: life safety and physical plant; operations and security; youth rights and community involvement; and treatment and education. The report outlines several issues of concern including deficiencies in sanitation, living quarters, security, education, and youths' rights. The report also includes photos of the audit.
