 DCF Memo: Approval of Final Recommendations Regarding DCF Regionalization
The memo details the structural changes planned for the Florida Department of Children and Families to align the DCF districts with Judicial Circuits in the state. The DCF restructuring was proposed early in 2007 by Florida State Senate Bill 1394, which was signed into law by Governor Charlie Crist. The plan replaces the former district system with 20 community-service circuits that mirror the states judicial circuits. The goal is to improve communications between the courts and DCF, instead of having some chief judges deal with more than one DCF administrator. Mental health and substance abuse treatment programs will be handled at the local level by the district administrator.
