Nonprofit Governance and Accountability

Concerns about nonprofit governance and accountability surfaced in a discussion with the Senate Finance Committee. Therefore the Johns Hopkins Nonprofit Listening Post Project conducted a survey of its nationwide sample of nonprofit organizations in five key fields to examine the governance and accountability practices of the nation's nonprofit organizations. Key findings, which are described in this brief by Lester M. Salamon, Johns Hopkins University, and Stephanie L. Geller, Johns Hopkins University, from this survey included the following: board roles, financial disclosure, ethics protections, organizational changes, and nonprofit awareness.
