U.S. Department of Justice Finds Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections in Compliance
On September 15, 2007, a report was issued by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) in regard to the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) and its compliance with a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed in 2004. The MOA stipulated that the ADJC take steps to improve services after a DOJ investigation found that it was deficient in preventing physical and sexual abuse and in providing mental health and special education to its residents. The report subsequently found that the three schools in question - Adobe Mountain, Black Canyon and Catalina
Mountain - were now in compliance in terms of suicide prevention, juvenile justice, special education, medical care, and mental health provisions.
The report, U.S. Department of Justice Consultants to ADJC Sixth Semi-Annual Report," was written by Lindsay Hayes, M.S., Louis Kraus, M.D., Peter Leone, Ph.D., and Russell K. Van Vleet, MSW, Chair. It covers events occurring as of March 15, 2007, through September 15, 2007.
