Wisconsin Insurance Rule Relating to Autism Spectrum Disorders Treatment and Affecting Small Business

On October 1, 2010, the Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance released its final rule for health plan coverage of autism spectrum disorders defining the level of services to be provided and credentialing for professionals providing services. The final rule was developed with input from the Autism Working Group, established by the Wisconsin Commissioner of Insurance in 2009. The law applies to health insurance policies issued in Wisconsin, including individual, small employer, and governmental self-funded plans, in addition to group health plans with more than 50 employees. Any plan deductibles and co-payments will apply.
