 Congressional Parity Letter
Seventy members of the House of Representatives sent a letter to the departments
that will issue regulations regarding the implementation of the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of
2008. The Act requires that regulations be issued by October 3, 2009. For most people, the parity provisions will be included in insurance plans as of January 1,
2010. The representatives urged the secretaries of the departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Treasury to issue timely and
specific regulations in accordance with Congressional intent to ensure that individuals and families
receive mental health and addiction treatment services on par
with other medical conditions covered under group health insurance.
