ShareTips for First Responders: Possible Alcohol and Substance Abuse Indicators

This brief is a list of indicators or warning signs that are associated with alcohol and drug addiction, and other physical and mental disorders. It should be used in psychological first aid situations. The signs include: physical/emotional indicators, personal attitude and behavior indicators, and cognitive/mental indicators. This list was produced by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and can be used when assessing one's health and personal risk but should not be used as a substitute for a screening or qualified clinical assessment.
