ShareEMILY's List vs. Federal Election Commission

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia ruled that restrictions imposed by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on how non-profit organizations could spend funds to support state and local candidates violated the First Amendment. The case was brought by EMILY's List, a non-profit organization which backs the candidacies of Democratic women who support abortion rights. The court said the FEC exceeded its authority when it created the restrictions.
