ShareFact Sheet on Adult Rehabilitation Program Reductions Due to California's Fiscal Year 2009-2010 State Budget

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR)  released this fact sheet to clarify the mandated reduction and how CDCR will address it. The reductions include changes to how CDCR will approach substance abuse treatment for offenders. In-prison treatment will be reduced from 36 months to three months and community-based aftercare will be emphasized. Long-term inmates will be trained to become Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors and literacy tutors. The goal is to implement evidence-based practices that reduce recidivism.
