HHS Version of Draft Outline for the Surgeon Generals Call to Action on
Global Health
Representative Henry Waxman presented this document as evidence that the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) exerted political
pressure to influence the Office of the Surgeon General. This report is a
draft, according to Representative Waxman, written in 2005 and meant to
be used as the outline of a Surgeon General report on global health.
This
draft differs from the actual Surgeon General's report which has not been
officially published. The differences include:
-
More references to President George W. Bush
-
Discussions of the United States' military efforts in Iraq and
Afghanistan
-
Omissions of sections on women's health and the impact of women's rights
on health
-
Omissions of sections of domestic violence
