State Medicaid Manual Section Defining Institutions of Mental Disease
The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will not permit Medicaid funding to be used for services provided in Institutions of Mental Disease
(IMDs). This excerpted section of the state Medicaid manual presents the definitions CMS uses to identify a residential facility as an IMD.
