ShareDelaware Health Status Report for Persons With Disabilities

The report is part of the Healthy Delawareans with Disabilities 2010 Project. The researchers sought to review the health and well-being of the states population of people with disabilities and compare their status with that of the general population to assess health and well-being disparities. Between May and December 2006, the researchers surveyed 339 people living in both community and in institutional settings. The participants were selected from service enrollment lists, referrals, and community outreach organizations.

The participants had a variety of physical, sensory, and cognitive disabilities. About one-third had a physical disability, and about a quarter had cognitive and learning disabilities. About 20% had visual impairments and nearly 11% had a hearing impairment. About nine percent had a mental health condition.
