 Antidepressants Prescribed by Medical Doctors in Office-Based &
Outpatient Settings for the U.S. Civilian Non-institutionalized
Population, 2002 & 2005
Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality researchers reviewed data
from the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey. The 2005 data is the most
recent available
Prescriptions filled for antidepressant drugs increased 10%, from 154
million in 2002 to 170 million in 2005. Psychiatrists prescribed 29%.
General practitioners prescribed 23%. Family practitioners prescribed
21%. Internal medicine specialists prescribed 10%.
