Results from the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use
and Health: National Findings
Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Services Administration
This report presents, for the first
time, information from the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use and
Health (NSDUH). This survey, formerly called the National
Household Survey on Drug Abuse (NHSDA), is a project of the
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
This survey was initiated in 1971 and is the primary source of
information on the use of illicit drugs, alcohol, and tobacco by
the civilian, noninstitutionalized population of the United States
aged 12 years old or older. The survey interviews approximately
67,500 persons each year.
