OIG Advisory Opinion No. 10-13
The federal Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General (OIG) said that it would not impose sanctions on
a hospital?s plan to provide free insurance pre-authorization services for imaging tests. The OIG said the plan had sufficient design aspects to limit the likelihood of fraud or abuse due to kickbacks.
The opinion applies only to the hospital that requested the opinion.
