Letter to the U.S. DOJ Regarding the Texas Youth Commission

On August 24, 2010, Texas Appleseed and three other Texas advocacy groups filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice against the Texas Youth Commission (TYC). The complaint claims that TYC has been unable to ensure the safety of its 1,700 youth at its facilities. Operational problems, inadequate staffing, improper use of restraints, and excessive force were cited as key problems.
