 Medicare Program: Prospective Payment System & Consolidated
Billing for Skilled Nursing Facilities for Fiscal Year 2008
The new rules are effective as of October 7, 2007. The rate increase
will also be applied to hospitals providing certain skilled nursing and
rehabilitation care to Medicare beneficiaries recovering from serious
health problems. The new payment rates also continue to include a special
adjustment made to cover the additional services required by nursing home
residents with HIV/AIDS. However, the co-morbidity provision of the 75%
Rule, which specifies at least 75% of an SNFs Medicare eligible-patients
must have one of 13 specified chronic conditions, will end.
