ShareThe Third Annual Homeless Assessment Report to Congress

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Community Planning and Development reported that the number of chronically homeless individuals in the U.S. was down 15% in 2007. The report covered the period from October 1, 2006 through September 30, 2007. Findings note that in 2007, 1.6 million previously homeless people found shelter in emergency housing or in transitional living programs. Chronic homelessness was defined as a person with a disability who has been continuously homeless for at least 12 months or who has been homeless for at least four times in 36 months.
