Final Rule
This notice details new rules that create exceptions to federal
kickback rules so that physicians can accept donations of health
information technology supplies from vendors. These new rules will
begin October 10, 2006, and will be in effect until December
31, 2013. This new ruling is part of the federal initiative to
enable the rapid adoption and use of electronic prescribing and
electronic health records. The federal government has chosen to
allow donations to lower the financial risk of adoption to
physicians.
