Virginia DBHDS Priorities and Behavioral Health Care Updates

In September 2010, the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) will open a $59.7 million 150-bed inpatient adult mental health treatment center at Eastern State Hospital. The center will serve individuals with serious mental illnesses (SMI), including those receiving court-ordered treatment. This was one of the main highlights of a presentation given by the Virginia General Assembly Joint Commission on Health Care Behavioral Health Care Subcommittee Commissioner. Additional highlights of the presentation included an update on the Creating Opportunities planning effort to determine initiatives to be addressed in the next three and a half years
