Disability Rights New Jersey, Inc. v. Velez et al.

On August 3, 2010, Disability Rights New Jersey filed a lawsuit seeking a court order to force New Jersey to provide judicial review of involuntary medication of people in state-run psychiatric hospitals. The plaintiffs alleged that the state’s policy of involuntary administration of psychotropic medications to people with psychiatric disorders constituted a violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act. The plaintiffs requested a permanent injunction to prevent the practice.
