SharePennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Proposed Changes for Non-Public & County Nursing Facilities

The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (DPW) is required to change its case-mix system in calculating the Medical Assistance rates to be paid for beds in non-public nursing facilities. Previously, DPW had included costs incurred by county-run nursing facilities. Going forward, DPW will phase-out its inclusion of the county-run facility costs. As of 2012, DPW will not include county nursing facility costs in the rate setting process for the state's 631 non-public facilities. The phase-out period is intended to give non-public facilities time to adjust their business practices.
