SharePennsylvania House Bill 1150: Autism Insurance Reform Legislation

Pennsylvania House Bill 1150 took effect on July 9, 2008 and provides autism insurance reform legislation. The new law provides $36,000 a year for applied behavior analysis and other necessary treatments. The law requires health insurance policies and the medical assistance programs to cover the diagnosis and treatment of autism disorders in individuals up to age 21 with no lifetime cap or limit on the number of patient visits. It also provides expedited appeals procedure for denied claims to ensure compliance by insurance providers. The autism reform applies to policies offered, issued, or renewed on or after July 1, 2009, to groups of 51 or more employees.
